How do you know if your site contains errors or whether it complies with HTML standards? Validation alone may not be enough to guarantee that your site is well designed but it is an important step in checking for readability in various browsers.

There are several validation services available which verify your HTML coding and inform you of errors and needed corrections. Be aware that not all validators are the same! It is important to test your pages with several services and to understand exactly how they are testing your site. Several validations services only test for usability with Netscape or Internet Explorer, neither of which will ensure your site complies to HTML standards.

There are many other browsers being used today running across various platforms.

It's also important to note that unless you provide the "DOCTYPE" and "Content-Type" commands some services may not know the standard being used on your site.
